Fundraising: Disaster Relief
IIn response to the devastating disaster that struck Boghé on September 5, 2017, GBA members and supporters launched a fundraising campaign to aid the victims. Between September 6 and October 31, 2017, a total of 107 individuals—including GBA members and other contributors—took part in the effort.
The campaign raised $11,872.94 in total. Of this, $6,872.94 came from direct donations, while an additional $5,000 was allocated from the GBA account to strengthen the relief effort. The full amount was transferred to the Boghé Crisis Committee, which oversaw local relief operations and provided assistance to those affected.
This initiative demonstrated the deep sense of solidarity and community shared by GBA members and partners in a time of urgent need.

Medical Equipment Donation
On September 6, 2013, the Commune de Boghé received a donation of medical equipment valued at approximately $20,000 (6 million UM at the time), through a partnership among the Commune de Boghé, the American NGO Project C.U.R.E., and expatriate community from Boghé in the United States. The shipment, weighing 10,047 kg and containing 886 packages, included essential items such as wheelchairs, X-ray machines, crutches, canes, a dialysis machine, dental equipment, office furniture, syringes, beds, mattresses, and other medical supplies.
The Association for Development in Mauritania (Fedde Halaybe) covered the transportation and customs costs, which totaled 1 million UM (currency at that time).
This donation helped address severe shortages in healthcare equipment at Boghé’s medical center and health posts. It was made possible following an assessment visit in August 2011 by Jason M. Corley, a consultant from Project C.U.R.E., who evaluated the needs of the health facilities in Boghé and surrounding areas.

Mobile Medical Team
Each year, the Great Boghé Association (GBA) provides financial support to the mobile medical team of the "Association pour la Promotion de la Santé Communautaire (A.P.S.C.)", which delivers free healthcare services to the population of Boghé and surrounding areas. This partnership reflects GBA's strong commitment to improving public health in the region.
The objectives of A.P.S.C. are:
Medical Consultation and Treatment – Offering general and specialized medical consultations, diagnoses, and follow-up care to individuals who may not have access to regular healthcare facilities.
Health Awareness and Education – Conducting outreach programs to educate the public on critical health topics such as hygiene, nutrition, vaccination, maternal and child health, and preventive care.
Medical Screening and Early Detection – Organizing health campaigns to screen for common and chronic illnesses, including HIV, diabetes, hypertension, and other conditions, enabling early diagnosis and timely intervention.
Through this annual contribution, GBA helps ensure that essential medical services reach underserved communities, particularly in rural and remote areas.
In 2006, the Great Boghé Association(GBA) provided financial support to the Women's Agricultural Association of Boghé, a local organization dedicated to empowering women through sustainable farming and income-generating activities. This funding enabled the association to improve agricultural productivity, invest in essential farming tools and seeds, and strengthen food security for many community families.
By supporting this initiative, GBA contributed to the economic empowerment of women and promoted community development and resilience through agricultural initiatives. The project helped enhance women's role as key contributors to local development and created opportunities for self-sufficiency and collaboration among members.
Supporting Educational Opportunities for Children and Youth in Boghé
The Great Boghé Area (GBA) association has consistently prioritized education as a cornerstone for long-term community development. Through various initiatives, GBA has supported educational opportunities for children and youth in Boghé, aiming to improve access to quality learning and create a brighter future for the next generation.
This support has included:
Providing school supplies and learning materials to students from underprivileged families helps reduce the financial burden on parents and encourages school attendance.
Offering scholarships and financial aid to outstanding students who demonstrate academic potential but face economic hardship, enabling them to pursue secondary or higher education.
Supporting school infrastructure projects, such as contributing to the construction or renovation of classrooms, libraries, and sanitary facilities, to create safer and more conducive learning environments.
Organizing awareness campaigns on the importance of education, especially for girls, and working with local leaders to promote school enrollment and retention.
Through these efforts, GBA continues to invest in the intellectual and personal growth of Boghé’s youth, empowering them to become active, educated, and responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to the development of their community.
